joe biden and paul ryan went on tonight in kentucky. there's a big age gap between these men. paul ryan is 42 and joe biden is either 60 or 80, i have no idea. vice president biden has a tendency to veer offmessage. >> biden has been out of site for days, working in a delaware hotel with david axelrod and acting as ryan, congressman ryan van hollen. he's been fuming up on gatorade and animal crackers. >> jimmy: what? and running around in circles, making airplane noises. it's like a snack break in the second grade. whatever it was, it worked because it seemed like someone spiked joe biden's ensure with five-hour energy drink or something. he was very fired up. a lot rougher than the presidential debate. they were going at each other like ronnie and sammy -- sorry, i was flipping between "jersey shore" and that. seemed to me that joe biden spent 80% of the debate trying not to curse. he actually said the word mularkey at one point. we haven't seen paul ryan talk much. he's a very serious guy. paul ryan seems like the guy you see at the bank who really hates standing in line, like, s

can expect vice president joe biden to tout the latest jobs report. the labor department says first time unemployment claims fell to lowest levels in four and a half years. a total of 339,000 people applied for benefits last week. the figure has not been that low since february, 2008 before the president took office. abc 7 news joins us now with a preview of tonight's debate. mark? >> the experts say numbers you're talking about suggest that hiring is strong enough to lower the unemployment rate? it's going to come out four days before the election, that number will, tonight everybody's attention is being turned to kentucky. >> round two. this time it's number twos taking center stage. the race tightening the showdown between the vice president joe biden and congressman paul ryan taking on more significance, mitt romney gained momentum. polls show the president has a slight edge in key battle ground states but romney has closed the gap, making the debate interesting. and both are very comfortable getting into specifics but experience on this type of stage couldn't be more different

could be feeling the pressure. the president did so poorly. now pressure on joe's shoulders to come out there and kind of put, spark a fire that the president could not. also interesting, came out yesterday from our pollster at "the washington post" is that the composition of the polls has changed a little bit. can explain some of shift in numbers. both in the gallup and pew poll, self-identified democrats, that number was higher in the predebate polls. self-identified republicans were up in the post-debate polls. so the wind has definitely been at romney's back, that's for sure, but the composition changed and changed numbers as well. >> i think there will be paul ryan's fourth debate since he's been in congress, so definitely new to that game, whereas joe bietden has been around 40-plus years in the senate. >> a long time. pressure on both, that's for sure. >> it will be high drama. >>> one month after the deadly attack on the u.s. ambassador to libya and three other americans in benghazi we were learning more about security fears leading up to the assault. state department docume
